1760 Chartered by the Duke of Beaufort, Grand Master of England, under the reign of King George III. 1787 Richard Caswell, James Glasgow, and William Randell represented Kinston at the formation of the Grand Lodge of North Carolina. Caswell was elected Deputy Grand Master. 1791 St. John's Lodge of Kinston was given the number 4. 1895 Notation in minutes that all records, jewels, and furniture of St. John's #4 from 1846 to 1895 had been lost in a fire. 1906 By Laws changed to prohibit all use of tobacco during opening and closing of the Lodge. 1907 East, West, and South station furniture, all handmade, designed by Brother C. L. Pridgen and Sam Pate, was presented to the Lodge.
1912 On July 8,
the Lodge voted to rent second floor of a building being built by Fred
I. Sutton for $250.00 per year. 1928 Gavels and bases in use to this day was presented to the Lodge by W. P. Smithwick of Lenoir Lodge #233 (La Grange). These items were made from parts of the first battleship, the U.S.S. Constitution. 1964 Present Lodge building dedicated on November, 2.
